The current UK fee picture
Two major marketplaces now charge no standard selling commission to qualifying UK private sellers, but “0%” does not make every sale cost-free.

eBay’s buyer-side fee
UK-based eBay private sellers receive 300 free listings each month. eBay adds Buyer Protection to the displayed item price and the buyer pays it. The seller sees what they will receive, so the fee is not a deduction from the private seller’s listed amount.
The buyer fee is £0.10 plus 7% of the first £20, 4% from £20 to £300 and 2% from £300 to £4,000. This can influence how competitive the final displayed price feels even though it is not a seller deduction.
Depop’s promotion tradeoff
Depop removed the UK selling fee, but its payment-processing fee remains. A boosted listing can add 12% when Depop attributes the sale to Boosted Listings, turning an inexpensive standard sale into a materially higher-cost one.
