Payout is not profit. Subtract what you paid for the item, your label cost when you offer free shipping, packaging and any other direct cost.

How buyer-paid shipping changes the fee

Mercari includes buyer-paid shipping in the 10% fee base. On a $50 item with $8 buyer-paid shipping, gross revenue is $58 and the seller fee is $5.80. If you pay for shipping instead, buyer-paid shipping is $0, the fee is $5 and your label belongs in “Your shipping cost.”

Mercari shipping rates

Mercari’s prepaid label prices can change when USPS, UPS or FedEx rates and surcharges change. A static table quickly becomes misleading, so the calculator asks for the price displayed by Mercari today. Use the package’s actual weight and dimensions; dimensional weight can change the correct label tier.

Mercari versus other US marketplaces

The 10% seller fee is lower than Poshmark’s 20% rate for sales above $15 and lower than eBay’s standard 13.6% category rate, but shipping, audience and sell-through can outweigh the headline commission. Depop has no standard US selling fee, but payment processing and optional boosting still apply.

Use the multi-platform profit calculator to compare the same item with the same cost and shipping assumptions.

Pricing tips for Mercari sellers

  1. Apply the 10% fee to item price and buyer-paid shipping.
  2. Enter the current label price instead of relying on an older rate chart.
  3. Leave room for offers without dropping below your minimum profit.
  4. Compare profit after item cost, not only the amount Mercari pays out.
  5. Recheck fees after editing an older listing or changing shipping terms.
